Brief Introduction
Vladimir Ashkenazy, conductor

In the years since Vladimir Ashkenazy first came to prominence on the world stage in the 1955 Chopin Competition in Warsaw, he has built an extraordinary career not only as one of the most renowned and revered pianists of our times, but as an inspiring artist whose creative life encompasses a vast range of activities.
Conducting has formed the largest part of his music-making for the past 20 years. He was Chief Conductor of the Czech Philharmonic from 1998 to 2003, and he was Music Director of the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo from 2004 to 2007. In 2009 he takes up the position of Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the Sydney Symphony.

Behzod Abduraimov, pianist

“his performance of Prokofiev’s Third Concerto was astounding in physicality, spirit and assurance, balancing audacity with a fine appreciateion of the music’s eccentricities and beauties”. –Gramophone

“What is Behzod Abduraimov on? This 18-year-old Uzbek powered his way through the 2009 London International Piano Competition as though he was plugged into some mystical mains, and his electrifyingly physical delivery of Prokofiev’s exuberant Third Piano Concert left no room for doubt where the first prize should go.” – the Independent

Born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on September 11, 1990, Behzod Abduraimov graduated from the Uspensky State Central Lyceum where he studied with Tamara Popovich. Since his first solo recital at the age of eight, Behzod has made numerous public appearances in the USA, Italy, Russia, and Uzbekistan. He also performed many concertos with the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan. Behzod received the First Prize from the Republican Competition in Uzbekistan (1999), Third Prize in the International Piano Competition in Kazhakstan, “Musician of XXI century” (2000), Diploma from the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in Xiamen (2002), First Prize and Grand Prix in the International Piano Competition “Le Muze” in Agropoli, Italy (2001) and the First Prize in the 2008 Lennox International Young Artist Competition. Behzod is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Music degree at the International Center for Music at Park University in Parkville, Missouri, studying under Van Cliburn International Piano Competition Gold Medalist Stanislav Ioudenitch. He is scheduled to perform with the Corpus Christi Symphony on February 21, 2009.
